To Share or Not To Share- that is the question when it comes to your Passions and Daydreams.
Do we play our cards close to our chest, treasuring and guarding our deepest dreams and desires?
Or Do we disclose our dreams, share our goals, or even publicize the things in life we are most passionate about?
This is a big decision for many creative people. The choice to let their work be seen or to keep it confidential.
As I’ve stepped out into the world of blogging, I’ve had many of these moments. Moments where I’ve looked at a piece I’ve written or an idea I’ve had and thought, “do I really want to share this with the world?”
Sometimes the answer was yes, and I hit publish. (And sometimes I immediately regretted that decision and quickly pressed, “delete”).
Other times the answer was no. A resounding no so loud that the work I created never even made it’s way into WordPress (where it could accidentally be published), but instead sits safely in a well-loved notebook in my bedside table.
So what goes into the decision to share or not to share? There are pros and cons to each side, though (like many things in my life) I think that ultimately the heart wins out.
Sharing can be very scary and vulnerable. The closer an idea, a dream, or creation is to your heart the more you want to guard and protect it. The idea of opening up your passion to criticism, critique, or even being copied is a bit too much to bear at times.
And yet, Not Sharing is not necessarily a free pass for the creative mind. Without sharing there is no feedback, no collaboration and even more importantly no encouragement to push you toward your brilliant idea!
I had this moment tonight as I was finally drafting up my big “reveal” post. The one in which I finally let the world know my intentions to build passive, active, and residual income online.
I haven’t even hit publish yet (at the time of writing this), and I’m already wondering, “Do I really want to ‘out’ myself like this? Do I really want to make my intentions known? My dreams public?”
But as I mull it over, the answer is Yes. Yes, I really do.
And the reason why is found in my closing paragraph of my last post. It reads:
I’m taking a leap of faith to pursue a dream. I truly hope that when you read my story, you’ll decide to take a leap of faith to see your dreams come true as well.
That’s what this is all about. Putting myself out of my comfort zone and seeing who else I find that is doing the same.
My goal is bigger than to monetize my websites and sell body wraps. My goal is to inspire and encourage. My goal is to make friends with creative minds, collaborate and brainstorm, and encourage one another in our passion journeys.
And to do that- I have to be willing to share.
So Tell Me:
- What is easy for you to share with others? What is difficult to share?
- How do you decide what to share and what to guard?
- When was the last time you had a really positive reaction sharing a creative endeavor? What was that like for you?
