What would you say if I told you that I have a way to boost your confidence, decrease levels of stress hormones, and increase your chances of success- in just two minutes?
Sounds like a scammy, sales-pitch, right? But, it’s actually a scientifically backed way to boost your own ego (in a good way!)
All it takes from you is a bit of Power Posing!
A Power Pose is simply a body posture that you would assume if you were in a position of power, authority, or victory. (Examples include: Hands on Hips with Arms bent at the Elbow or Arms outstretched to the sky in a “V”)
So you want to boost your confidence and decrease stress hormones in your body?
Here is your assignment:
1) Strike a Pose
2) Hold for two minutes
3) Enjoy your increased sense of self-confidence
Really, it’s that easy!
Still don’t believe me? Then please take a minute (ok, 21 min and 2 seconds if we are being technical) and watch this TED Talk by Amy Cuddy. (It’s my favorite TED talk, and much more information-rich than this simple blog post, and it’s embedded at the bottom of the page for your convenience.)
Amy Cuddy is a brilliant social scientist who spear-headed this research and is proving to the world that you really can (and should) “Fake it ‘till, you Make it.” And not only that- but fake it, until you become it. (If it sounds insincere, I promise it’s not- watch the TED talk and hear why.)
Basically, by assuming a power pose for two minutes at a time you are “faking” self-confidence. Your brain interprets your body language as actually being confident, therefore giving you an ego-boost and decreasing the amount of stress hormones in your body!
Fascinating, isn’t it!?
I really encourage you to watch this TED talk, try it for yourself, and share it with your friends. To pursue our dreams, we all need a confidence boost from time to time- and this has got to be one of the quickest, easiest ways to get one.
So Tell Me:
1) Did you watch this Ted Talk? What did you think?
2) Have you tried a power pose? How did it feel?
3) What situation in your life could you use a little confidence boost in right now?
