C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors. Have you ever read anything by him? My favorite is still his children’s series The Chronicles of Narnia- I absolutely adore those books! He also writes very profound, thought-provoking books for adults, always full of wisdom and very insightful. I found this illustration of one of his quotes courtesy of one of my friends who posted it to her Facebook page- I thought it was just too great not to share it with all of you too!
To be fair and perfectly honest, I believe that the last line of the quote was originally the first line of the quote (perhaps a bit of artistic interpretation here)- but I do like it as the last line as it works well in the story and leaves the reader with a poignant “take away” point. Love is a risk. Whether it’s receiving love from others or giving love away, there is always a point of vulnerability.
If I let them love me, will they hurt me? If I love them, will they love me back? Is love even worth the risk?
I think it is.
How about you?
