Oh the snooze button. It’s one of life’s best/worst inventions ever! One little button that allows you to soak up a few extra minutes of comfort, while simultaneously causing you to waste away precious morning moments.
Probably one of my worst habits is hitting the snooze button multiple times in the morning before work. Being rushed to get out the door seems (at times) a worthy price to pay for “just five more minutes” of rest. (It’s not a worthy price, by the way. My mornings would be so much better if I didn’t do that.)
Somewhere along the way this month, I realized that not only was I hitting the snooze button on my morning alarm, I’ve also been hitting the metaphorical snooze button on accomplishing my goals for the month.
This month for my Make-a-Habit, Break-a-Habit link up, I determined myself to get back into the habit of publishing new posts on a regular (twice-weekly) basis.
I haven’t written a post since then.
(Side note: I have to apologize to you fabulous ladies who linked up with us this month. I truly hope your goal for the month is going better than my own.)
I will tell you that I’ve thought about writing several posts. I’ve had the ideas in my mind. And yet, I’ve put it off. Whenever my brain piped up to say “Lauren, it’s time to write,” another voice seemed to overshadow it saying, “Shhhh… not now… give yourself a break.”
And so I am caught between two philosophies- both of which I believe to be true:
1) There’s no time like the present. Don’t wait for tomorrow what you can do today.
2) It’s never too late to realize your dreams and see them come true.
They seem to contradict each other don’t they? Yes, yes they do. And, guess what, I really don’t have a good explanation on how to reconcile the two.
It feels like a post like this should come to some sort of climatic thesis statement that challenges our current mindset and encourages us to move forward in our passions. But it’s not going to. I’m still stuck between the two and I’ve really got nothing for ya.
And yet, I’m hoping that maybe we can learn a bit from each other.
So Tell Me:
1) Has this ever happened to anyone else? Hitting the figurative snooze button on your goals and dreams?
2) How did it feel to push something off? Did you feel the pressure to start or the relief of extra time?
3) What finally woke you up and got you moving toward your goal?
P.S. The good news is that writing this post inspired me to write a few more- so this won’t be the only post coming at you this month 🙂
